Ali and Nemanja's beautiful Four Seasons Georgetown Hotel wedding was filled with love, laughter, and gorgeous flowers.
Playwrite John Guare wrote, “I am bound to everyone on this planet by a trail of six people.” If Ali and Nemanja started at six degrees of separation, they inevitably circled closer and closer until there was no space left for a missed connection. They began as mutual attendees of George Washington University, but ran in different circles. Nemanja was a European living in the United States, while Ali was an American studying abroad in Europe. Social media streamlined the “six degrees” rule and fate finally brought them together.
Nemanja, who had messaged Ali on a whim after seeing her travelogue on Facebook, was a notoriously bad planner. When he knew Ali was the one, he took care to pull out all the stops for an epic and meticulous scavenger hunt proposal. He planned the beginning of the rest of their lives in the process.
In her hotel room at The Four Seasons Georgetown, DC, Ali gathered her essentials: dress, shoes, and Chanel perfume. Soft daylight slid through the curtains to accentuate ephemeral treasures as Ali’s mom buttoned her up and her sister, who served as the maid of honor, carefully cinched the ribbon on her heels.
Before the ceremony, the wedding party gathered in an idyllic courtyard at The Four Seasons Hotel. The lush, tumbling waterfall of green ivy was a serene backdrop to their first look. Ali’s delicate crystal hairclip of silvery leaves paid homage to nature’s decadent net, as eucalyptus infused bridal bouquet bobbed brightly in her hands. Her bridal bouquet was an elegant in light and airy mix of pale pink and white, complimenting the bridesmaids blush dresses. Bursting with roses and peonies, Ali’s flowers conveyed the day’s buoyancy.
The Dumbarton Room was transformed into a ceremonial realm of gold and ivory. Tall pillars guarded the aisle’s entrance beneath lavish garden style arrangements in gold urns. A luxuriant arch of greenery, peonies and roses, greeted the couple at the altar to exalt a union as natural as the flowers themselves. In a flurry of petals, in a dreamy white room, their friends and family celebrated as if immune to space and time, only existing in an extraordinary moment.
Ali and Nemanja’s design called for a room flip, so while the décor rematerialized in an exciting new pattern next door the couple meandered back out to the enchanted courtyard as husband and wife.
As the drapery parted, Ali was taken aback by the glimmering reception area. The thick centerpieces spilled from slim golden vases, highlighted by the shine of candle light. The intimate setting gleamed with tables full of gilt flatware and votives nested between bud vases of lush florals. The couple enjoyed champagne at the striking sweetheart table, overlooked by their wedding arch and fronted by a veritable garden of peonies, garden roses and smilax vines. Graceful taper candles in gold candlesticks illuminated the happy couple.
A beautiful cake tiered with white and gold and gently adorned with ranunculus & seeded eucalyptus sprigs and topped with fluffy white roses ended the meal, but not the fun: laughter and dancing was soon to follow.
Starry-eyed and starry-skyed, Ali and Nemanja ventured into the evening’s parting gift: a magical canopy of sparklers held high by everyone they loved.
